Mental health counseling is a confidential process designed to help you address your concerns, come to a greater understanding of yourself, and learn effective personal and interpersonal coping strategies. It involves a relationship between you and your counselor that will help you accomplish your individual goals. Whether you have a specific concern or something in your life that just doesn't feel right, counseling can be an avenue towards clarity and healing.
The counseling process begins with an initial 55 minute appointment to gather basic information about your background, your current concerns, and what you expect from counseling. During this session you and your counselor will determine if you'd like to continue working together and develop goals to address your needs.
After your initial appointment, you and your counselor will typically meet once per week for a 55 minute session. This is your time to process anything weighing on your heart and mind or any obstacles you've encountered in meeting your goals. While we work with objectives in mind, healing is not linear and counseling often brings up additional unforeseen material. You may wish to continue working with your counselor through these additional layers. Whatever you decide the therapeutic relationship will serve to compassionately support you through the ups and downs of your unique journey.
In most cases, our rate is $150 per 55-minute session, however you may qualify for a lower fee. Contact us to learn more.
At JBCS, we try to build an approachable environment for any new clients. We have counselors available remotely throughout New York State and for in-person at our offices throughout Long Island, NY.
